Created in 2010 when our peers recognized the special obligation to one another, to the wellness profession, and to the public they serve. We understand that being a Wellness Professional is a noble and sacred endeavor that aligns you with a long line of honorable professionals who have made significant contributions to their wellness modality, as well as, enhanced the quality of the lives of their clients. Developed from the Hippocratic Oath, as well as, “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz, then through a meeting of the minds and consensus, the Oath was created.
The Oath of the Wellness Professional
- I will be impeccable with my words and speak with integrity. I will say only what I mean and avoid using words to speak against myself or to gossip about others. I will use the power of my words in the direction of truth and love.
- I will not make assumptions and will find the courage to ask questions and to express what I really want. I will strive to communicate with others as clearly as I can in order to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama.
- I will always do my best and I understand that my best will change from moment to moment. As I know better I will do better and by doing so I will avoid self-defeating behaviors like self-judgment, self-abuse and regret which allows me to remain a healthy professional for my clients.
- I will not take anything personally. I understand what others say and do is a projection of their own reality.
- I will use my education ethically and maintain the highest standards of integrity.
- I will abstain from giving medical advice or advice that could be construed as such, unless I have the necessary medical qualifications.
- I will stay informed of any illness or injury a client might have and will take serious precautions in keeping them both safe and comfortable.
- I will remain dedicated to continued growth both personally and professionally.
- I will never force my own opinions on clients but rather will appreciate the fact that every individual is entitled to his or her worldview, ideas, and beliefs.
- I will make every effort to avoid exploiting the trust of my clients and their potential dependency, and will instead encourage them to find greater inner freedom.
- I will not be ashamed to say "I do not know," nor will I fail to call on my colleagues when the skills of another are needed.
- I will respect the privacy of my clients. The problems that are disclosed to me are not for the world to know.
- I will remember that the opportunity to serve my clients is a privilege and will operate from a state of appreciation. Likewise, I will remember that what I have to offer is of value and will not allow anyone to undermine my services. As a professional I will determine my boundaries and adhere to them.
